Entities and initiatives
ICAO position
At global level, ICAO has established a Global Framework for Alternative Aviation Fuels (GFAAF) for promoting the development of these fuels.
European Union position
The European Union promote the use of renewable fuels in every transport by mean plans, strategies and research funding.
SWAFEA y others
Particularly noteworthy two projects funded by European Commission: SWAFEA and Alfa-bird. Then again, several entities are developing sustainability criteria, as the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels.
CAAFI
In the United States of America, in 2006, the CAAFI consortium was created. It includes representatives throughout the aviation industry and other relevant sectors to work in the commercial development of alternative fuels.
SAFUG
There are other international consortia, in this case private, as the group of users of alternative sustainable fuels for aviation (SAFUG).
Spain
OBSA is leading, together with the Spanish government and with the participation of several key stakeholders, the Spanish initiative for the production and consumption of bio jet fuel for aviation that seeks to foster the development of an alternative, safe and sustainable biojet fuel industry through the development and implementation of the complete value chain.
